Mark your calendars: Medieval and Fantasy Faire

Medieval Faire, Ravenbane's jouster1

Here’s early notice to mark your calendars. For three days this July, Malone will be home to a Medieval & Fantasy Faire, complete with jousters on horseback!

Ekrub Players of Burke is planning the July 10-12 event that will involve about 150 organizers and participants. There will be plenty to enjoy, with demonstrations, games, food, crafts, and music. The Faire also is open to the fantasy side of participants, so don’t be surprised to find Thor or Trekkies strolling among the trolls.

“We are thrilled to be able to bring this event to this area,” says organizer Barry Armstrong. “We hope to see non profits become involved too. They can run a game and keep the money for their organization. We just want this to be a true community event.”

Ekrub (Burke spelled backwards) is transplanting the Faire to Malone, where it can occupy the State Street side of the Rotary Rec Park. Youth groups, clubs, and civic organizations are welcome to join in.

There will also be a drum circle, dragon egg hunt, pet costume parade, and a Kiddie Kingdom of games. Local groups such as Drew Crew Cloggers, All that Jazz of Brushton with Maypole dancing, Veils of the Nile belly dancers, and Adirondack Raptors of Saranac Lake also will participate. There’s still time to become involved.

“We like to have fun and engage families. We hope to inspire everyone to have fun and be creative,” Armstrong adds.

The three-day Medieval & Fantasy Faire will open with a parade each morning. Hours will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for senior citizens and students. There’s no charge for children age 5 and under.

Ekrub Players is a not-for-profit theatrical troupe focused on outdoor, family-friendly experiences. Its two major annual events are the Mystical Forest River Walk in October and The Medieval Fantasy Faire, Krebashia Kingdom, in July. Ekrub also encourages student participation in script writing, acting, singing, puppeteering, making props and artwork. The money raised from ticket sales goes back into creating new events, and providing arts scholarships for children.

Anyone interested in participating in Ekrup can send email to drbarryarmstrong@gmail.com. Meetings are held the second Sunday of the month at the Adirondack ARC office in Malone. You can find updates about Krebashia Kingdom and Ekrub Players on Facebook.

Wonderful that they’ve found a venue — I know it’s been a long search—good to know the magic hasn’t died.
